Delta shower cartridges: which one do you have?
- 5 sources checked
Quick answer
Most single-handle Delta tub/shower valves from the last 30 years take one of five cartridges. The main clues are the valve series, whether the valve dates from before or after March 2006, and the cap color on the cartridge.
Quick table
| Cartridge | Valve / trim series | What Delta says to look for |
|---|---|---|
| RP19804 | Monitor 1300/1400 series, before March 2006 | Single function (temperature only). White upper housing, shorter lower housing. |
| RP46074 | MultiChoice 13/14 series, March 2006 and later | Single function. Gray upper housing, longer lower housing. |
| RP46463 | MultiChoice 17 series (2006/2007 to present) | Dual function (separate volume and temperature). Gray upper cap, V notch, adapter. |
| RP32104 | Monitor 1700 series (1998 to 2005) | White upper cap, square notch, longer tab. |
| RP47201 | MultiChoice 17T series (TempAssure thermostatic) | Brass and black. Won't fit the older valves. |
Dates come from Delta's reference sheet and parts pages. Delta gives "2006" on one page and "2007" on another for when the 17 series started.
Single function or dual function?
- Single function (13/14 and 1300/1400): one handle. The water comes on at full flow and you only choose temperature.
- Dual function (17 series and 1700): you control volume and temperature separately.
If you have a MultiChoice universal rough-in valve, Delta's staff say on the RP46074 page that you can switch from 13/14 trim to 17 or 17T trim. The cartridge comes with the new trim.
Older Delta valves
Delta's leak-parts page also lists the RP1991 stem unit and seats for the 1600 series (valves made 1974 to 1993), and RP70538 for Peerless B112900/B114900 valves (2010 to 2015).
Best check: the model number
The model number on your trim or in your paperwork settles it. Delta's parts pages use it to show the exact cartridge. If you can't find it, Delta's website has a product identifier tool on its parts pages.
