Quick answer
Most battery-powered Ring doorbells take the Quick Release Battery Pack. Ring's newest battery doorbells can also use the bigger Quick Release Ultra Battery Pack. A few models have a built-in battery that can't be swapped. Start by checking your doorbell's exact name in the Ring app, because Ring has renamed several models.
Which doorbells take which battery
| Doorbell (name in the Ring app) | Battery |
|---|---|
| Video Doorbell 2, 3, 3 Plus, 4 | Quick Release Battery Pack |
| Battery Doorbell Plus, Battery Doorbell Pro (older models) | Quick Release Battery Pack |
| Battery Doorbell 2K Plus, Battery Doorbell 4K Pro | Quick Release or Quick Release Ultra |
| Video Doorbell (1st Gen), Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) | Built-in, not removable |
| Battery Doorbell (base model) | Built-in, per Ring's spec page |
Ring's compatibility list also names the base Battery Doorbell under the Quick Release pack, but Ring's spec page and charging article both say that model has a built-in battery. If there's no battery with a release tab behind the faceplate, yours is built in.
The same pack fits many Ring cameras
Ring lists the standard Quick Release Battery Pack for Outdoor Cam, Peephole Cam, Spotlight Cam Plus and Pro, Stick Up Cam Pro, Stick Up Cam Battery and Solar, and Solar Floodlight too. If you have a doorbell and a camera that both take it, one spare can cover both.
Why buy a spare
Ring says a full charge can take up to 10 hours. With a second pack, you swap in a charged one and the doorbell stays online while the other charges. Ring's Charging Station charges one or two packs at a time in about 4.5 hours each, which Ring says is roughly twice as fast as a Micro-USB cable alone.
Ultra won't fit older models. Ring says the Ultra pack is not backward compatible. If your doorbell isn't a 2K Plus or 4K Pro, buy the standard pack. Details in Quick Release vs Ultra.

Questions people ask
Which Ring battery fits my doorbell?
Video Doorbell 2, 3, 3 Plus and 4 and the older Battery Doorbell Plus and Pro take the standard Quick Release Battery Pack. Ring's newest Battery Doorbell 2K Plus and 4K Pro take either the standard pack or the larger Quick Release Ultra Battery Pack. Check your doorbell's exact name in the Ring app first.
Do all Ring doorbells have a removable battery?
No. Ring says the Video Doorbell (1st and 2nd Gen) and the Battery Doorbell have a built-in battery. You charge those by taking the whole doorbell off its bracket.
Will the Ultra battery fit my older Ring doorbell?
No. Ring says the Quick Release Ultra Battery Pack is not backward compatible and only works with its latest devices, such as the Battery Doorbell 2K Plus and 4K Pro, Outdoor Cam 2K, Spotlight Cam 2K and Peephole Cam 2K.
Does the same battery work in Ring cameras?
Often, yes. Ring lists the standard Quick Release Battery Pack for many cameras too, including Stick Up Cam Battery and Solar, Spotlight Cam Plus and Pro, Outdoor Cam, Peephole Cam and Solar Floodlight, so one spare can cover more than one device.
