Quick answer
Look up the UPS model number, not the battery number. APC's own battery selector says not to search with the number printed on your old battery or old cartridge. The UPS model number is on a sticker on the bottom or rear of the unit, not the front. Type that model into APC's selector or match it in the table below, and you get the right Replacement Battery Cartridge (RBC).
Genuine APC replacement battery cartridges: match the RBC number to your UPS model first.

- Find the model sticker. Tip the UPS over or look at the back. APC notes the letters and numbers vary by product line (for example BE600M1, BX1500M, BR1500G).
- Check whether the battery is user-replaceable. APC says some Back-UPS models use batteries that are not user-replaceable, because swapping them can expose live electrical parts. Those need qualified service personnel, or a new UPS.
- Match the RBC number. APC also says the internal battery's model number in your user manual matches the RBC number.
Common Back-UPS models and their RBC (APC's US and Canada list)
| UPS model on the sticker | APC replacement battery | Battery rating (from APC's product page) |

| BE650G1, BE850G2, BE900G3, BR700G, BX850M | RBC17 | 12V, 9Ah lead-acid |
| BK350, BK500 | RBC2 | 12V, 7Ah VRLA |
| BR1000G, BX1350M | APCRBC123 | 24V, 7Ah lead-acid |
| BR1500G, BX1500M | APCRBC124 | 24V, 9Ah lead-acid |
| BE425M, BN450M, BE700G3, BVN650M1, BVN900M1 | No RBC available | APC lists the battery as not user-replaceable |
This is a short excerpt. APC's full table covers more Back-UPS and Back-UPS Pro models. If yours is not listed, use the selector. A few cartridge pages (APCRBC123 and APCRBC124) are titled "for Smart-UPS", but APC's Back-UPS table lists them for the BR and BX models above. Go by the table entry for your exact model.

Warranty and old batteries
- RBC warranty: APC says genuine RBCs carry a two-year warranty for lead-acid (VRLA) batteries and five years for lithium-ion.
- Disposal: APC says to take old UPS batteries to a certified recycler or an approved drop-off. Never put them in household trash, because they contain hazardous materials.
Don't open a unit APC marks as not user-replaceable. APC warns that changing those batteries may expose live electrical components, so the job is only for qualified service personnel.
