Quick answer
Pink and blue cylinders hold the same CO2, but they connect differently and don't swap. The pink Quick Connect cylinder slides in and locks when you lower a lever. The blue screw-in cylinder twists into a threaded holder. Your machine decides which one you need, not the cylinder.
Side by side
| Quick Connect | Screw-in | |
|---|---|---|

| Example machines | Terra, E-Terra, Art, Enso, Duo, Mix, Gaia | Fizzi, One Touch, Jet, Genesis, Power, Source, Spirit |
The full machine lists are on the SodaStream cylinder fit chart. SodaStream says both types give the same bubbles. The difference is only in how the cylinder connects.
What happens if you buy the wrong one
A blue cylinder in a Quick Connect machine won't lock. SodaStream's support article for a handle that won't go all the way down says to stop and not force it, and to check that the cylinder is the pink Quick Connect type, because a blue cylinder won't work. A pink cylinder has no threads, so it can't be screwed into a screw-in machine either.
This is a common mix-up. Owners on r/SodaStream describe bringing home the wrong cylinder after a machine upgrade, and SodaStream's cylinder page says each machine is made for one specific type.
Switching from blue to pink
If you moved from an older screw-in machine to a Terra, Art or other Quick Connect machine, your blue cylinders still count as empties to trade in. SodaStream New Zealand's Terra page says you can exchange your existing cylinder for a Quick Connect one at a store that carries Quick Connect cylinders, and SodaStream's US team has told owners the same on r/SodaStream. Call the store first to check that it stocks pink cylinders.
For mail exchanges, SodaStream's exchange page asks you to choose the cylinder type you want delivered. See how to exchange a cylinder for return windows and fees.
Adapters: you'll see adapters sold online that let one machine take the other cylinder type. SodaStream says to use only SodaStream cylinders made for your machine, and that other cylinders can damage the machine and void the warranty. We don't recommend them.
Which is better?
Neither holds more gas. SodaStream describes Quick Connect as the one-click option with no twisting, and its Terra page calls it the new cylinder technology. If you already own a machine, the only right answer is the type it takes.
How we work: the details here come from SodaStream's support and product pages and owner threads, listed below. We have not tested these cylinders ourselves.
Questions people ask
Can I use a blue SodaStream cylinder in a Terra?
No. SodaStream says the Terra works only with the pink Quick Connect cylinder, and a blue screw-in cylinder won't let the handle close. Don't force the handle.
Can I swap my blue cylinders for pink ones?
SodaStream New Zealand's Terra page says you can exchange your existing cylinder for a Quick Connect one at a store that carries Quick Connect cylinders. Call the store first to check stock.
Do Quick Connect cylinders hold more gas?
No. Both types are rated for up to 60 liters of sparkling water. The difference is how they connect: pink clicks in under a lever, blue screws in.
