Quick answer
H11 and 9005 are different bulbs with different bases. OSRAM lists the H11 on a PGJ19-2 base at 55 W nominal and the 9005 (also called HB3) on a P20d base at 60 W nominal. Because the bases differ, one won't plug into the other's socket. Buy the number your car calls for.

| Nominal wattage (OSRAM) | 55 W | 60 W |
| Close relatives | H11B (PGJY19-2), H8, H9 | 9005XS / HB3A (also P20d) |

What about H11B and 9005XS?
OSRAM lists the H11B on a PGJY19-2 base, a different code from the H11's PGJ19-2. It also lists 9005XS (HB3A) on the same P20d base as the 9005. When a bulb number has a letter or suffix, look it up rather than assuming it matches.
How to tell which one you need
- Check the bulb chart in your owner's manual. It lists each position (low beam, high beam, fog) separately.
- Look for a printed number on the base of the bulb you're replacing.
Sylvania describes its H11 and 9005 Basic bulbs as direct replacements for the factory bulbs, with no modification required, when you buy the size your car takes.
Don't touch the glass. Sylvania says never touch the glass when changing a bulb, and to use gloves or a clean shop towel to reduce the transfer of oils.
How we work: specs come from OSRAM's ORIGINAL LINE table and Philips' datasheet. We don't test bulbs ourselves. Sources are listed below.
