Quick answer
The rubber flaps you see in the sink drain are the splash guard (InSinkErator calls it a baffle). On some disposals it lifts straight out for cleaning; on others it's molded into the mounting gasket and only comes out when the disposal comes down. People order the wrong one because the listings all say "fits InSinkErator." InSinkErator's own parts sheet splits them by disposal series, so start with the model name on the label on the side of your unit.
InSinkErator baffles & gaskets: match the series on your unit's label.
Quiet Collar Baffle (QCB-AM) Standard Mounting Gasket (SMG-00)Two kinds of splash guard
| Part | InSinkErator number | What InSinkErator's sheet says | How it comes out |
|---|---|---|---|
| QCB-AM Quiet Collar sink baffle | 74653D | Replacement for Power and Advanced Series disposals. | Lifts straight out of the sink opening. Dishwasher safe. |
| RSB-00 removable sound baffle | 08302D | Not for use with Advanced Series. | Lifts straight out of the sink opening. |
| BUK-00 baffle upgrade kit | 78529-ISE | Listed with the baffles as an upgrade kit. | Check the kit's instructions for your model. |
| SMG-00 standard mounting gasket | 09963D | For non-stainless steel grind chamber models. Not for Advanced Series. | Splash guard is part of the gasket; the disposal has to come off the sink mount. |
| DMG-00 deluxe mounting gasket | 09959D | For stainless steel grind chamber models only. Not for Advanced Series. | Same as above. |
| MGK-00 mounting gasket kit | 74657D | Includes both the standard and deluxe gaskets. Not for Advanced Series. | Same as above. |
How to tell which one you have
- Try lifting it. With the power off, pinch the center of the rubber guard and pull up. If the whole guard lifts out of the drain, you have a removable baffle (QCB-AM or RSB-00 style).
- If it won't budge, the guard is part of the mounting gasket clamped under the sink mount. Look at the inside of the grinding chamber with a flashlight: a stainless steel chamber takes DMG-00, a dark plastic chamber takes SMG-00.
- Read the label. The model name on the side of the unit settles it. Advanced Series takes QCB-AM, not RSB-00 and not the mounting gaskets.
Smelly but not torn?
A removable baffle can go in the dishwasher. A gasket-style guard can be scrubbed in place with an old toothbrush and dish soap, with the power off. A guard that's torn, stiff, or letting water splash up needs replacing.
Disposal not running at all? Start with the reset button and wrench fix.
Dropping the disposal to change a gasket: it's heavy and full of water. Turn off power at the breaker, unplug it, disconnect the drain and dishwasher hoses, and support the unit before you turn the mounting ring.

Questions people ask
Which InSinkErator disposals take the QCB-AM Quiet Collar baffle?
InSinkErator's parts sheet lists QCB-AM (part number 74653D) as the replacement for Power and Advanced Series disposals. Those models have a removable baffle you lift straight out of the sink opening.
Does the RSB-00 baffle fit every InSinkErator?
No. InSinkErator lists the RSB-00 removable sound baffle (08302D) as not for use with Advanced Series disposals. Check the model name on the label on the side of your unit first.
My Badger splash guard is part of the gasket. What do I order?
On units where the rubber splash guard is molded into the mounting gasket, order SMG-00 (09963D) for plastic grind chamber models or DMG-00 (09959D) for stainless steel grind chamber models. The MGK-00 kit includes both. InSinkErator notes none of these are for Advanced Series. Replacing a mounting gasket means dropping the disposal off the sink mount.
